Destroying Britain's railways

The Labour government's campaign to destroy Britain's railways continues. The latest plan from Alistair - the Scottish Secretary of State for English Transport - is to introduce airport style check ins at railway and even Tube (subway) stations.

The result is entirely predictable. People will switch from rail to road. It will undo all the good of London's congestion charge. Transport decisions have always been more sensitive to convenience than to price or "safety".

The railways remain the safest way to travel on land. Currently ten people a day die on the roads. This plan is certain to increase that number.

How many people have to die to satisfy Labour's lust for political posturing? Would Alistair Darling be introducing this policy if his constitutents commuted to work by train? Or if it even applied to his constituents?
