Unmarried couples

Letter to The Times

Sir

With the exception of the proposal that unmarried partners be regarded as next of kin, the Law Commission's proposals ("Couples who live together to get more legal rights" 27 June 2005) do not confer additional rights. Quite the reverse, they effectively remove the right to be unmarried. A simpler way forward would be to allow all people the right to nominate their next of kin.
