Bush

To The Economist

03 May 2003

Sir

Your correspondent (03.05.03) ironically suggests that if people without degrees had the vote then even George Bush could be President. In fact, if exit polls are to be believed, the degreeless could have given the election to their favoured candidate - Al Gore - merely by turning up in the same proportions as graduates, who favoured Bush. Then Governor Bush (Yale and Harvard) got his strongest support among those with Masters degrees and Gore his strongest support among high school dropouts.

Yours truly,

Quentin Langley
