To the Daily Telegraph

Sir, I notice that the only argument raised by your correspondents who support compulsory identity cards is the rather dubious one that honest citizens need have no concerns. Is this the best that can be said of the proposal, that will cost billions - that it will cause no harm? If even supporters of the scheme can think of no positive benefits then it deserves no serious consideration.
Yours truly,
Quentin Langley
