Measure for Measure

Sir,

For the first time today I heard the BBC (on the Today Programme) using the size Belgium as a unit of measurement instead of the traditional British measure, the size of Wales. Has there been a Directive of European harmonisation? If so, will the French ignore it and carry on using the size of Corsica? Or is this an internal initiative by the Blairite BBC?

For those who are interested, there are 1.47 Waleses to the Belgium.

Yours truly,

Quentin Langley
