We read that Prince Harry is to go to Iraq - the first member of the Royal Family to see active service in a conflict zone since Prince Andrew in the Falklands war. There is a pattern here. The heir cannot be exposed to conflict but the spare can. In World War One the Prince of Wales - later Edward VIII - was kept out of the front line but the Duke of York - later George VI - was not.
But we also learn that Harry is to have bodyguards.
Excuse my bluntness, but what is the point of a soldier with bodyguards?
