If Labour is re-elected, it plans to make all unmarried couples get married. There will be hundreds of thousands of forced marriages, in direct contravention of the International Convention of Human Rights and the Human Rights Act. Sound outrageous? It is. It is also the direct consequence of giving unmarried couples the "right" to divorce. Which is how Labour describes its plans.
Straight couples in the UK currently have a choice. They can get married, with all the rights and obligations that come with that, or not. Labour plans to amend the law such that the rights and obligations will be imposed on people who prefer not to have them.
